Virtual Violence

February 10, 2009 was Safer Internet Day. From far-flung Albania to SID 2009Venezuela, countries around the world participated in the event to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology for children and young people. The amazing array of events – school campaigns, rock concerts, videos on national TV channels, public forums – underscored the international commitment to protect minors from virtual violence.

Back home, the Media Awareness Network (MNet) marked the day by launching the classroom resource, Cyber Bullying: Encouraging Ethical Online Behaviour. These lessons are designed to help teachers tackle cyber-bullying in Canadian schools and are appropriate for Grades 5-12.
